Looking for 12, 14 and 17MM Hex Socket Bits
 

Any idea on where I can find those at a reasonable price? THNX

if you're an occasional user try harborfreight.com. some of their product is ok the other is crap. just be careful what you buy.

my personal choice is craftsman. other choice brands are matco or proto. now these 3 brands are the cheapest. but i can't count how many cheap tools i've broken and thrown away.

Sears Craftsman.

I was just in there last weekend to purchase a 7mm socket I had misplaced a week earlier...

hex = allen? if so merely saw a piece off the allen wrench and place in appropriate socket.

AutoZoo has a lot of hex wrenches including a set with the 14mm needed for removing the differential plug and the oil drain on 107 chasis.

Craftsmen if your going to use the tools alot otherwise get harbortool stuff is sufficient

The Snap$On truck will have them.

stupid me....... i see in my post that i said that craftsmen etc: were the cheapest i meant it to say that they ARE NOT the cheapest.

i see others have hit on the harbor freight stuff too.

Unless things have changed, Sears doesn't carry the complete 12/14/17 arrangement. The suggestion above about Auto Zone is a good one for the occasional user.

larger than 10MM metric hex bit sockets... at least the one i went to yesterday and they don't even list it in their tools catalog. I have found quite few on various web sites..

Just got back from Auto Zone and Boy I was impressed! they had great selection of Metric tools. I bought the 12mm, 14mm and 17mm Allen hex sockets (great for rear differential and transmission oil pan plugs and other tasks that require removing a hex plug) all 3 for $7 and also got me an O2 sensor craw foot socket (the one recommended for MB and can't remove your MB O2 without) for $8. These tools come with lifetime warranty. Couldn't ask for more than that. I couldn't even find those for a fraction of the cost on many website searches I’ve done for the past couple of days... sometimes the answer to your problem is right under your nose;)

You must be one of the few people with access to an abrasive saw.

would you believe a dremel. gotta love schmengie engineering.

i use a dremmel and the 4.95$ diamond wheels from harbor freight to cut screw driver slots in my tool holders for the lathes. the small sizes use a .050 allen head and they round out all the time so i just convert them to slots and then no problems.

any you're right about schmengie engineering. sometimes that is all that works

I bought mine at an industrial hardware supply house. They sell them in singles rather than sets. Quality was high and price reasonable.
