Instrument Cluster Removal
1989 300 E with a burned out instrument cluster light.
Simply, what is the easiest way to pull the cluster out to change the light? Some suggest a puller while others suggest going into the dash by the left speaker. Sounds like a lot of work to me! There is very little room to use a tool to pull the cluster out through the front. Someone suggested a coat hanger but should a mercedes puller (tool) be used instead? |
I noticed your post count, so my reply will be brief . . . the forum search feature will get you all you need to know about the W124 cluster, which is pretty much the same as the W201. You don't need pulling tools, either bought or handmade if you're willing to remove the underdash panel and the plastic vent ducting. Do consider this approach to loosen the speedo cable before moving the cluster out of the dash.

Get the MB hooks and pull the cluster. Cheap and easy

Takes less than 30 minutes to do the whole job (other than the time needed to identify which bulbs are out). FastLane has the tools for about $15 a pair. Cost was worth it to me as the SL has the same cluster removal process. Tools are also handy for delicate removal of other interior compnents... |
