190e brake pads

About 2 years ago, I purchased these brake pads for the front wheels of my 1988 190e 2.3. I vaguely remember they guy saying "these pads have a lifetime warrantee"...as I walked out of the store it occured it me that I nevered heard that being said for brake pads before-i would think that its a wear item that you replace every so many thousands of miles.
I installed them and drove the car for 1 year before checking them again, they showed almost no wear at all! I probably drove the car 15000 miles in city conditions that year. Another year went by and again they show almost no wear!

Is there a new type of brake pad out there on the market or some new technology that they are using that allow these pads to last a very very long time?

My OEM front pads lasted less than 10,000 miles...
But then I run over 100 mph reasonably often.

Some neverending brake pads would be nice - can't be as effective or quiet as normal pads though?

Brake pads typically last 70k - 100k miles with me. I just avoid using the brakes. Still, I expect the car to last a lot longer, so you need to understand the definition of 'lifetime' in most warranties. It usually applies to defects in materials or manufacturing that cause the product to fail, and excludes any 'normal' wear.

This is a game to get you to go back for new pads from him. The labor he charges you, easily covers the cost of the pads. My experience with these places is that they use the cheapest pads possible to keep you coming back for more. Plus he gets a shot at replacing your rotors, calipers, shocks, etc.

I suppose so, but these pads look like I put them in yesterday, never seen that. However they do not seem to have the same grip and smoothness that my last set had, although they did not last as long.
