Here in Topeka, Kansas premium is 1.99 a gallon.
What I find interesting is that the price of 100+ octane racing fuel is the same as last year, 3.69 a gallon. ------------------ |

I got back home last night from a European trip. I was in; Germany, Denmark and Holland. Of course when anyone has conversation with me, there's always an automotive element. The fuel is around six bucks a gallon in those countries. Aditionally in Denmark there is a 180% tax when purchasing a new car. That's right 180%. I didn't see very many Benz cars in Denmark. Fuel is a bargain here. Please don't get the idea that I won't complain about it though.
I'm headed for Zurich on the 25th. and then to Milan for the remainder of the week. My wife is flying to Milan and we are going to drive over the Alps through Switzerland and into Germany. The fuel bill will be staggering. Have a great day, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |

I just returned from a trip to Las Cruces, NM. Talk about hot. The price of diesel there ranged from $1.29 - $1.49. Quite a spread for such a small town. Gasoline was anywhere from $1.55 - $1.80 from regular unleaded to super.
Here in Denver, (I've been out a week) I've been paying $1.49 for Diesel and gasoline (I don't buy it anymore) has been running between $1.55 - $1.85. At the risk of inciting flames, I feel compelled to make the following remarks. Please receive them in the manner intended; that being a bit of a reality check. All in all, while the price of gasoline has been going up significantly over the last several months, when factoring in the value of the dollar, we (United States-ians) are still paying a reasonable price for gasoline. In the UK, at $6.00 gallon, and Europe in general, you see why most people, from most walks of life drive small gasoline cars with <1.5l displacement or diesels, if they own a car at all. Me, personally, I have a hard time sympathizing with those that have *chosen* to purchase vehicles with large fuel tanks and their associated poor mileage performance. I guess I should be thankful that those folks are willing to voluntarily increase their tax burden to provide the more miserly with smooth roads to drive upon. Do not take this as a defense of the pricing practices of the oil companies. I'm no fool. I realize what is going on. When I hear people complain, however, about the price of gasoline as it approaches, and in some places, exceeds $2.00/gallon I can only advise those folks to get a grip. Someday, probably in the not too distant future, the price of gas will surely exceed $2.00/ gallon FAIRLY as it did many years ago when it went past $1.00/gallon. In that case, your choices will be very straightforward; either get a more economical vehicle, or pay the price of admission. My apologies to all I may have offended. Gasoline has become very expensive here in NY...$1.95 (Amoco Ultimate). Its pretty ridiculous when you have to blow about 30 bucks to gas up a 300E. But on the other side, when you think about it, its a bargain compared to Europe. You have to remember though that in Europe they have higher octane fuel. 96 octane is their super as supposed to our 92 here in the states. 92 octane in Europe is regular--typically VW Polo's, and Peugeots fill up on this. Diesel is on the rise also throughout Europe. An uncle of mine in France is spending about 60 USD to fill up his 2000 A6 (1.8 litre TD). Hopefully, all we can do is wait until the fall, and hope the price drops.
Larry, good to have you back. Do you plan on driving through Domodossola? Very beautiful landscape.... Agron 1989 300E (108k miles) |

We spent summer before last driving around France and Italy in a rented turbo diesel powered Peugot. I think it was a 307. Anyway it was the size of a Toyota Corolla.
The better mileage plus the lower price of diesel took a good bit of the pain out of paying those high European fuel prices. I worked it out a couple of times and the cost wasn't that much higher than driving a gas hog here. The Peugot wasn't much of a car though. Harvey |

Agron,
Let me write that down. I have yet to so much as look at an Atlas or MapQuest. I haven't had time to do anything but get airline tickets. I just know that my wife is meeting me in Milan on a Friday, and we're leaving from Frankfurt the following Friday. Thanks for the suggestion. Larry |

I live in Northwest Indiana and the price for premium gas is 2.25-2.30/gal. I think the midwest is definately being screwed by some local government. I'm glad I have a 4 cylinder to drive.
