Thanks for the help...cleaned the windshield with windex, and the wiper (Yes it pulls away from the windshiled, i took it off for the cleaning) Better now. Like the idea, it wipes a large area, and cool to watch. I do wash my car with the wash / wax stuff. No more, adds to the problem.

I think another thing that can contribute to streaky windshields is a pitted windshield (like mine - looks like it is covered with pollen when looked at from an angle) that collects road grim and oil from the road during routine driving. I periodically wash it down with isopropanol and then wipe the blade. I think the mono wiper is better than the standard type because for a brief instant during rain a standard passenger side wiper throws a huge amount of water right in your line of sight before the other wiper can clear it off.

However, this reminds me. Though I've only needed to use it but once. The third speed on my wiper is the same as the second. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Mono on mine was much quieter
I really liked the quiet mono wiper on my old 87 300E. I have traded up to a 95 S420 and it has standard 2 wiper system which makes much more noise and even with new blades installed does not do any better job than old mono system on 124 car. Keep new refills of OEM ? (bosch?) and check post for lubing of the unit if it still does not do well. I miss mine!

I like the setup on the GM minivans. Both wipers move from the inside out, leaving only a small area behind the rear view.
The windscreen is cleaned all the way down to the base. The area behind the rear view mirror is not used anyways. Very effective. There is a night and day difference between the mono on the E320 and the setup on the Montana. I have tested this under similar conditions, there is no comparison.

I've seen those types of wipers and they are impressive - actually all wiper systems and wiper motors are impressive based on the number of times they are used and the rate of failure. Too bad the whole car can't be as reliable - let me clarify - any car as reliable.

Forgot to mention Stoner® Invisible Glass. Great Product inside and out the car and in the house too. Alcohol based so less chance of damage non glass surfaces.

I just bought a Bosch Micro-Edge Excel 24" Premium wiper blade from AutoZone, $17. The problem is now solved.

Is that $17 for the whole wiper or just the insert?

You get the whole thing that snaps right into the MB wiper arm. I changed it in 30 seconds. Very satisfied.

I recommend buying a silblade wiper blade, although bosch are probably the best when you cant get a silblade. I had bosch up until I learned about these SILBLADE wiper blades, all silicone, etc.
www.silblade.com Has great blades, they last like 5 years, I have had them on my range rover for nearly 5 years already and they are perfect. I even used them on Ice. I made a 300 dollar order to buy them for all my family and friends reciently. You can pick all kinds of colors, etc, they even have a winter blade out now. I got one for my brothers C36 and it didnt fit so good though, but for the w124s they fit fine. Im going to talk to the company about the C36 blade. For some reason the C36 has a weird offset on the wiper blade, it doesnt attach in the center of the blade...oh well, w124s are fine.
