Help-Rear Axle Lubricant-SHOULD YOU OR SHOULD YOU NOT
 

126 chassis-Do the rear axle knuckles require relubrication??? Do the boots next to the differential receive their lubrication from the differencial???
123 chassis-I removed the big clamp on the boot next to the differential and it had the same fluid in the boot as the differential and was about 1/2 full...Does it get its lube from the differential??? A gentleman on here also said that the fluid from the boot next to the wheel can get into the bearing and mess up the disc brakes...Is this true????It doesn't look that way to me..Thats why I am asking these questions....thanks Jim

There is no differential oil going into those rubber booths. The are lubricated at the factory with a special long life grease. As long as the booths are sealed, (not cracked or cuts) there is no prescribed maintenance to perform on these elements.

No required fluid or grease additions to the 126 boots. However to lenghten the life of the boots consider buying 303 Aerospace Protectant and spraying the boots with the prtectant. It is designed to preserve rubber. YOu can usually find it at RV stores, They recomment spraying it in tires to prevent UV damage and dryrot on the tires. The verylarge bus RVs can have a $4000 for tires. Good idea to rpreserve those babies. I have used it on the TD and it seems to make the rubber softer and pliable. I did the boots when I rebuilt the rear suspension.
