Does your car sound differently in winter?

When its cold, my car seems to sound differently. Its exhaust is louder, the occasional rattle is quite loud in comparison to summer, etc.

Anyone else experienced this before?

Yes, my exhaust also sounds louder now thats its colder outside. I didnt notice if it still sounds this way after the car has warmed up or not. I will have to listen after my drive home from work tonight.

I'm no acoustics expert but I belive sound behaves
differently in cold air - everything sounds harsher.

I've noticed that on mild damp days my car sounds quieter both in terms or engine/exhaust but any rattles and squeaks also quieten or vannish.

I'm pleased to read the previous posts as my exhaust is sounding the same too now it's colder.
Almost sounds like a slight "blow" as though perforated. Anyway it's nice and quiet once warmed up so obviously nothing too serious.
I suppose it might be down to normal contraction and expansion of metal which is more pronounced now colder days are here, maybe an exhaust clamp joint needs tightening?

I forgot to add, overall a bit noisier when cold, ie accessory belts and engine "rustling" etc. Quiet once warm.

my exhaust sound actually seems to be staying noisy after warmup, not real loud but enough of a difference for me to notice. I will have to snoop around under there and see where exactly the noise is coming from. Its the same sound as i have always heard just a bit louder now.

ok found it, when i was at the drive through yesterday it was pretty noticable, so last night i went under to take a look, and i tried to follow the noise. I ended up feeling air(exhaust) coming out right where the pipe connects with the front end of the catalytic converter. That sucks for me. The whole system looks pretty bad from the cat to the back. I think i will try some of that exhaust cement in combination with some exhaust tape that they sell, in order to buy myself some time. Hopefully till at least after xmas!
