battery plate

I was cleaning the battery area, decided to take out the battery and the plate, while taking out the plate I found an extra piece underneath the plate, it kinda looks like the battery holddown(same color but not the same) cant figure out where it goes,can someone help? the car is a 92 300e

Is it perhaps a spacer from an aftermarket battery? This is often done when the battery place doesn't have the size you need or gives you a one-size-fits-all battery. Always try to fit the largest battery you can in the space you have, regardless of the size of the original battery.
