Car; 1993 190E 2.3

Problem: Engine fan spins freely and not with the engine as it is running. Engine heats up when driving slow or around town, stop and go stuff but the electric fan on front of radiator will come on to prevent overheating. How do I fix the fan on the engine? Thanks.

Replace fan clutch. I had the same thing happen to me. It's fairly easy to do, 4 bolts to remove the fan then replace the clutch and reinstall.

Your 2.3 has elector magnetic engine fan clutch,I'll check the fuse first #1,#3,#10 if the fuse is ok next is check the temperature switch 100c at top of cylinder head, also check k8 double contact relay.

Fuses, no problem, but I don't have a manual (can't buy one) so could you please describe location/description of temp switch 100c and k8 relay. Thanks.
quote:
Originally posted by MB STARS:

Switch sits directly on top of the engine like MBstars said just behind the thermostat housing. It is screwed into the engine and comes into contact with the antifreeze so please be careful when removing! When you pull the connector from it it should have either 2 prongs or just one, be sure to get the right one when purchasing (I think yours has 2 prongs). I don't know what the K8 relay looks like but you can probably trace the connector wire to it maybe MBstars can clarify that bit. You may also want to check the connection contacts to the clutch magnet, taking down the fan maybe neccessary.
