Wheel bearing replacement
Hello, just came back from the tire shop and my driver's side rear wheel is really loose. I'm lookng to order the bearing when I've noticed they list an iner and an outer for my car. Do I need either or both?
Thanks, AARON ROCHARD 1976 230.4 W115 |
The rear wheel bearings should come in a KIT. MB number 123-350-00-68. That job requires several special tools & a dial-indicator

Both, and a new seal for the inner. Usually, you can buy them as a kit that includes all 3 pieces and new races (which you may or may not need). I am assuming that you have determined by some method that it is, in fact, the wheel bearings....?

Thanks guys, we determined that it was the wheel bearings because of excessive play in that wheel. The mechanic banged on the passenger side wheel and it was fine, he then banged on the driver's side wheel and it made a hollow, knocking noise.

Problem fixed !!!
Finally! I found what was wrong with the back wheel. It wasn't the bearing at all!
Upon getting a second opinion and looking at the car with the wheel off, we (read I) found a broken stabilizer. I will have the thing replaced shortly. Thanks for all you help. AARON ROCHARD 1976 230.4 W115 |
