Help with Battery
Greetings to all,
Just wondering what are the forum thoughts on dry cell car batteries i.e. Optima, or some of the other brands. I want to change the batteries on both my MB E 320, and my 240 Volvo. A friend suggested I switch from the conventional liquid cell battery to dry cell. Just want to hear some opinions Thanks Oscar And happy holidays |

Search on "optima"
and you will find alot of discussion - some pro some con. I put an "orange top" (not really orange anymore) optima in my 500e - it has the reversed terminal which match up to the 500e set up better than a conventional. I got it because I wanted some insurance against acid leak. It's foot print is smaller so the hold down needs some help. The car doesn't get used in winter, so I have a cut off switch to quick-disconnect the battery. Costs $30-50 more than a conventional. Is it worth it? I honestly don't know - I'll have to see how long it lasts.

Did you have to change the battery cables to reach the posts on the optima? How did you rig the hold-down? My "orange-top" is due to arrive next week, so I'm curious what might be involved.
Thanks

They are not really 'dry cells'. It's just that the electrolyte solution is in a gel state.
