300E Spark plugs are very crusty!!!
Hello Board,
For about a week now, I noticed my car idling bad and hesitating when I pressd the gas. Well, today I bought a set of Bosch Super H9DCO sparkplugs to replace my H9DC plugs. Well when I took them out they all had oil on the threads, but my #1, #2 and #6 plugs had a very thick crust on the electrode. What could be causing that thick crust build-up on the spark plugs? My old spark plugs were about 3 months old and have about 1000 miles on them.

Is this a relatively straightforward DIY job?
Will I need any special tools?? What parts will I need? Will I need any special parts? Are there any instructions on how to change the seals??

mike, Sounds like you have at the very least bad valve stem seals. The seals can be replaced in a few hours with the engine still in the car. Very common for the rubber seals to get hard as wood and allow oil to get past. New seals will even control oil consumption with moderately worn guides. S.
