W126 brake job expense?

What's a ballpark figure on getting a brake job done on a 1990 420SEL. Rotors and the works? Probably having it done at a qualified independent shop.

Also..... my SRS light is starting to flicker intermittently. Goes on and off about every 5 seconds or so. What problem, if any, does that indicate? I'm certainly not looking to replace any airbags or the like.

Todd,

The brake job shouldn't cost too much. If your mechanically inclined at all it's a pretty easy DIY'er.

The SRS light is likely a bad seat belt sensor.

Good Luck

Brake job on a 126 car - done in a shop that features competent MB techs - can run around $600-$700 U. S.

Chances are the rotors will be replaced - both front and rear, All four sets of pads and the sensors. A good tech will also repack inner and outer bearings(front) and replace grease seals. Go look up the parts prices of what I've listed & subtract from the figues above. There's your labor.

You ain't gonna get a turn-key 126 brake job for cheap and if you do, good luck.

The alternative is to do it yourself. Afterwards, you'll understand why a good shop charges what it does.

Did the front brakes on my w124 as a first time DIYer.

Parts were about $150 for front rotors, pads and sensors.

Dirty job but very easy DIY.

My intermittent SRS light turned out to be a bad horn ring, about an $80 part. Easy DIY. Use the Search feature.

Thanks for the input fellas. At least now I have an understanding of what it entails and can ask the shop(s) what's included in the price. I'm afraid the chances of doing the job myself would be tantamount to being arrested for "impersonating" a mechanic.
