broken diesel pedal

I have a 1984 300D. The accelerator pedal has come apart- the metal tab at the bottom is rusted out from the floor. Any suggestions on how to repair?

The end of my metal tab was like a potato chip and broke off..then the rectangular bump on the bottom of the pedal is an actual fastener...( you pinch the two metal tabs togather on the back and pull it out from the front to get the tab out, and the rusty part removed...What I opted to do is take a piece of metal (I used a hinge exactly the width of the channel at the bottom of the pedal..cut off the loops on the hinge...drilled the hole in the hinge out to match the orig.slot on the metal..bend just like the original..then reinsert the rubber tab ...then put it back in the car. I just drove it and it works great ! Hope this helps as this topic was nowhere in search and I know there must be more rusty accelerator tabs out there guys !..I LOVE MB Forum !

We always pop-rivet a piece of metal to the floor & then weld (or rivet) a new tab to that piece of metal on the floor.

MB offers that tab as a spare part....116-616-00-20...

I used a self tapping screw to hold down the tab..it has held so far...now I am onto the cause of my W123 decelerating after 50 + MPH...then bottoming down to 40 before slowly depowering to stall beside the road...so HEY Life Is Grand...but thanks for the post on this topic..Do you think an exhaust leak prior to the Turbo could cause this ? All filters are changed and fuel injectors are clean..so any ideas on this evolving saga..? I am researching search in the forums ...I LOVE MERCEDES SHOP..and have finally found a local mechanic that can spell, explain and hopefully problem solve..and that aint easy in appalacahia !

thanks again,
Marie

Just for kicks I looked for the part again in all my links by part number..and hey it is hard to find..Not in German Star, Parts Train, Silver Star, got a link for others in case it happens to them ?
