Does anyone have any data on converting the older MBs to R-134 ? A previous owner did mine. Before conversion, I think the A/C system for the 300TD was marginal ( the same as the 4 door). I have seen a can of additive at a local car parts place that claims to help performance. It is made by the same Brand X company that sells the do it your self conversion kits. I would liike to know if this system needs to be charged on towards the high side to work well.

thanks

Converting a marginal system makes an even more marginal system. The tuning (repairing) of a marginal system is anything but cookbook diagnostics.

The proper working of heater water valves, recirculate doors and other air distributors are a must before approaching the thermodynamics of the refrigeration process.

There is no "repair in a bottle" for these problems that I know of.

I have an '84 300TD wagon that I converted to R-134a several years ago. The A/C performance seems adequate to me here in Mississippi. I would stay away from any magic cures in the form of alternate refrigerants since some of them have butanes or propanes which are flammable in them.
