If you're comfortable with rebuilding, that's the way I'd go. There are rebuild kits and seals available.

Dismantle and inspect -- if there is no corrosion in the caliper bore or on the piston, rebuild. If the bore isn't perfect, replace, if the piston has any corrosion below the seal with piston at bottom of bore, replace caliper.

Cool Buy or rebuild Brake Caliber

body - 140
1993 - 500SEL

rear break pads needed replaced. Noticeds that one pad was big and the other small.

Seems one piston is frozen - good to get ot free.

Should I
1 - buy new caliber
2 - buy a rebuilt caliber
3 - rebuild it myself (I have done on other cars - remove pistion insert new plastic stuff and reassemble.)

Thanks for your advise.

I personnally have not seen may "kits" available to rebuild the breaks.

Enjoy the snow.

Caliper kits contain new rubber seals and protectors. If even one of the pistons is bad, buy new or rebuilt calipers. Pistons will cost almost as much...Maybe more. Warning: Do not separate the piston halves as they are hard to reseal properly without the right gear.
