Question w124 95' E320 shocks remplacement

Since one year, I own my fist MB, a 95' E320 coupe, with 160 000 KM (sory I used the metric system)

My shocks seem to be good to be remplaced.

I have no sportline supsension.

I heard and I read about a lot of shock marks (especially Bilstein)

I am looking for comfortable ride, not for sport comportement.

I am questionning myself on buying mercedes shocks (about 500$ front + rear) or bilstein (not the sports one) for approximately the same price.

What is the best choice for about the same price (I don't want to change the springs or to lower the car) ?

Thansk a lot

Bilstein makes Mercedes shocks.

They are the same shock, except one has the Mercedes star logo on it, and the other says Bilstein.

Bilstein "comfort" shocks are the original shock.

Bilstein "HD" shocks are original shocks for countries with bad roads, like South American and Africa.

Gas shocks usually mean that the shocks are hoked up to some sort of air-pressure device and the ride can be adjusted by adding more air or removing it to give a harder or softer ride.

Bilstein and the original Mercedes shocks are charged with a specific quantity of fluid. There are comfort shocks, heavy duty shocks and sport shocks. the Sport shocks are used with lower springs, but the other two are what you would use to replace the original equipment shocks in your Mercedes.

I instaled HD shocks in my 300D sedan, and it made for slightly more precise feel of the road.

Mercedes installs shocks from Bilstein and Boge on new cars. Blstein shocks are identical to those sold by the dealer, except they do not have a three-pointed star stamped on them. Bilsteins cost less than Mercedes shocks here in the US and are guaranteed for life, so save your receipt as a proof of purchase and if they are guaranteed there as they are here, you will never need to buy another set.

I am not a mechanic, but installed a set of shocks on my 300D with not too much difficulty. Do a search on install new shock absorbers in this forum and you will find more information than anyone could need.

Good luck and smooth riding

I once bought one set of Boge shocks, for an Audi I think, but it was so long ago I don't remember what they were like. But more recently I have been told that they are really really quite - and quite a bit less Bilstein - maybe 25 to 35 percent less or something like that. I wouldn't be afraid to give them a try.

In france the 4 MB shocks are about 610$

On Ebay I can have Bilstein HD (I asked for confort too) for about 500$
Without considering the price, what is the best choice for confort driving : stock MB or Bilstein (HD or confort ?)? I leave in France (Europe) and the roads are quite good.

For driving comfort, go with the Bilstein Comforts.

And yes, they are the same as the original shocks.

Bilsteins have lifetime warranty. MB's just one year (I think).

At least in the US.

Bonjour Tex5, ca va?

I installed Bilstein comforts on the rear of my 300E and they're very good. Hard enough to feel more 'controlled' but not too hard. A good balance.
