94 E320 running hot

Drove the 94 E320 (79,000 miles wifes daily driver) to a party tonight about 4 miles from home and I noticed the temp was creeping up to 120, just under the RED zone. We arrived at the party location just in time. fyi, outside temp is mid to upper 40's.

On the drive home it made it to 110 or so on the gauge by the time I pulled into the garage.

Could it be a stuck thermostat?
Radiator cap?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Coolant is MB brand from the dealer, maybe 6 months old.

I checked the radiator fluid level when we got home ad it seemed fine.

My 400e doesn't run hot, but after installing my cold air intake i decided to use some of the left over heat shielding on the radiator hose. After I put it on, I noticed it ran 3-4 degrees colder than it did without it.

Yeah, 120 is way too hot.

I can't think of anything but a stuck thermostat that would cause this.

Sounds like a thermostat issue to me too. My experience has been that the AutoZone/Advance Auto thermostats are actually better than the MB thermostats.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I forgot to mention that the fan was coming on.

I may swing by autozone for a thermostat. The wife needs the car for work this week and the others in the stable are 5 speeds and she refuses ot learn yto drive a manual :(

Make sure you get all the air out of the system after changing it out.

I just had the same problem last month, a new themostat fixed the problem.

New T Stat fixed it. I bought a 192 degree F Stant thermostat from discount auto parts and a new gasket and all is well :)

Took all of 10 minutes to do the job. Longest part of the job was driving 20 minutes to one part store for the t stat and then another 30 minutes away for the gasket and then 20 minutes back home :(

Thanks again for all the help.
