I have just removed the starter from my 85 190E. It was intermitently causing a screeching noise every so often when trying to start the car. When it did this it would not turn the motor over, Try again and the starter would work fine. Does this sound like a solenoid problem or what could it be? Any help would be appreciated.

Replace the Alt with a rebulit unit. Bosch remanufactured are the best. We sell 'em.

I have this same starter problem with a 240d. Eventually the starter drive tears up. How does the alternator come into play here? Is it pulling current off the starter somehow during cranking?

You did mean starter, not alternator here, right? My 87 300e does this VERY intermittently (maybe 3 times in last 4 months.) Should I replace starter before I'm stuck somewhere? Or could this be a bad spot on the ring gear? thanks ------------------ Bob Johnston 87 300E |
