Is there any interest of setting up a list of "good to great" MB shops on this terrific forum? I would find a consumer rated shop invaluable. I've seen many requests for recommended shops go unanswered, leaving many uneducated MB owners at a disadvantage when going into a repair situation.
I currently use 2 MB dealers alternately to see if they detect the same problems when I bring my car in. I've tried independent shops to try to save some money. But if I can get a good recommendation I can save on both frustration and anxiety, which cost more than just money. Just a thought and I hope enough of you feel the same. Maybe the owners of this list can find time to tackle this request? I don't mean to offend anyone if this is out of bounds with rules and regulations of this list. Thanks, Michael Chan |

I'm sure the Webmaster will see this soon and give it some thought.

Well it seems it hasn't caught on with many people yet. I guess it might take some time. In any case, does anyone recommend a good shop in the New York City area?
So far my "best" experience has been at the Helms Brothers Mercedes Dealer in Bayside, NY. But best is relative since I don't know if there are better out there. Thanks for setting up and maintaining this site! Michael Chan |

Good idea. The list should be useful to help members (especially rookies like myself who are first-time Mercedes owners) connect with good shops. Equally important, to avoid rip-offs!

I think it's a great idea. I too need help finding a good shop at times, and I have been turning wrenches for 20 years.

Good Plan! If my present tech ever moves, retires, etc. I will be up the creek. It would be useful to have a good alternate choice, especially if he is booked solid and I have an emergency.

Heres my vote too.
As Mercedes owner for just over a year, its not the best thing in the World to get that uneasy feeling when the mechanic is explaining his discoveries to me. A map or list would be Fantastic! Although a map may take to much of your resources to maintain. Ross ------------------ 96 C280 |

I think its a great idea because not a lot of mechanics have experiences with MB's.
Cheeman.....I know a great independent MB shop in Brooklyn. This guy only works on Mercedes cars. The shop name is Kraft, and the owners name is Steve. This guy is so good, he'll just look at the car for a minute or so, and find your problem. I swear....write me if you want more info at AAHMEDI2@hotmail.com Agron 1989 300E (108k miles) |

I think a list like this would be great. In Lexington, KY, the only shop I know of is the local dealer. There are many jobs an alternate shop could do on an older model MB that don't require the latest up-to-date training for the 2001-year models, etc.
