Hi,

My dad bought a used 92 300E quite some time ago and he's experiencing shifting problems where the transmission hesitates when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

This happens regardless of whether the car is cold or warmed up.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Any tips on maintaining the car are also appreciated.

Thanks.

THere is a upshift delay vacuum element on the trans control cable, it could be sticking & causing the trans to stay in gear too long. This would require a technician to inspect throttle linkage & cable adjustments.

I can pass on what my mechanic and other MB owners told me when I bought my 87 300E. They said to maintain it on time every time, don't be late on the coolant or brake line flushes, only use high quality MB recommended parts and fluids, change the oil about every 3000 miles, and keep organized records. The cars are supposed to be pretty sturdy when maintained well, but failure to follow the schedules allows a cascade of problems. Example - my dad hadn't followed the brake fluid or coolant change schedules. result - a corroded water pump that was leaking and needed replacing before it failed and took the heads/block to Valhalla with it.

Thanks for the information. I'll have my dad check into the Upshift Delay Vacuum Tube Element.

I'll also let him know about making sure the maintenance is done on schedule using Mercedes parts/recommended parts.

Thanks Again.

Being that my dad isn't so computer/internet literate, I'm being the good son and helping him out.

Thanks in advance for your good advice
