Woodruff keys in 560SL
Is there a wayto find out if woodruff keys have been installed without removing the camshaft gears?
Thanks Rookie |

it is very hard as the cam bolt covers the key completely. If you take the cam bolt and washer off it may allow you to see without taking the cog itself off.

I am in the process of replacing the upper rails of my 560 (just got it, one is broken). I plan to replace everything including the chain. If woodruff keys have been installed I imagine that the camshaft will be offset from the cranksaft timing when I install the new chain and I will have to remove it to take care of it. Am I right?
Martin, I am a little afraid of trying your suggestion because I am not sure of what I am getting into. I'll see what I can do after a couple of beers. Thanks. Rookie |
