You may have to replace the regulator as well, they get old and warp. When they do, the motor is stressed and will dye as well.

Check with partsShop for a quote.

It's probably binding. If the motor is working, ie. moving the window at all, then, that component is not the problem. It may not have all of it's original gusto, but it's at least working. Tug on the top of the window when it's halfway up and see if it has any excessive play. If so, then it's binding in the channels and will need to be cleaned and aligned. This is a task that can require considerable mechanical aptitude and patience. Give it a shot if you feel comfortable with the challenge. You may be better off replacing the whole mess with a used motor/regulator. No idea on price. Check with the Parts Shop here. Lee might be able to find the goodies for you. You seem to be having a multitude of problems with this car. Good luck.

I have a 1984 500SEL Euro and after I bought it I started reading some of the posts on this forum. The overall consensus seemed to be that the 84-85 500SEL's were not what they were cracked up to be. Everyone seemed to agree that they were nothing but money pits. After hearing about all these problems you are having, Benzman500, I'm starting to think that maybe they were right.

I have only had mine for about a year and I haven't had anywhere near the problems that you are having (knock on wood). Then again, I had a top notch MB mechanic (direct from Deutschland)give it the once over and fix up all of the little stuff before I got it in my hands.

Good luck!

Oh by the way -- Does your 500SEL Euro have the hydropneumatic suspension on all four corners as well?
