W124 dash rattling, anybody solved this?

Hi All,

I know this is a stretch, but both my W124s have a loud rattle at approx 3800 rpm. It sounds like loose AC control buttons rattling or possibly something in the center console. It is definitely inside the car, somewhere near the center console.

Has anybody heard this in their W124, and solved it?

Thanks!

Try holding the shifter while you hear the buzzing sounds.

Our 91 300E did this and needed the plastic shifter bushings replaced.

My rattle/buzzing problem solved

I could have sworn that a buzzing / rattle noise was coming from my driver's side A-pillar on my '95 E420. But one day when it was making the noise and sunny outside, I moved my driver's side visor and the buzzing stopped.

Sounds travel very strangely inside a car. I would never have guessed that the sun visor was the source of so much frustration.

So - don't be so sure about the location of your car's funny noises. The real culprit could surrprise you.

I held the shifter as Haasman suggested and the noise went away. So, off to replace the bushings in the sedan. I'll check the wagon later.

Thanks for the solution!!
