Squeaky seats in E500
I'm having some squeaks in the seat snow that the colder weather has set in. Any advice on where to put some lube and what to use? Changing the seating position stops the squeaking for a bit- only to have it return later.

Is the squeaking coming from the seat belt area? Typically this indicates that the seat cushion may be worn, in my experience. This is because the seats are under quite a bit of tension from being held down all along the edges. As the cushion material wears, it allows the seat cover to expand outwards rubbing against the plastic seat hinge covers and seat belt covers.
How many miles on your car? I have used silicone spray with a snorkle tube and lots of rags to help stop this. You insert the tube at the junction of the plastic seatbealt covers and the seat cushion material, give it a blast, using rags to catch the drips etc. If per chance the above does not apply, try using a good leather care product and rub all around, especially where the seat back and the seat bottom intersect. Keep us posted, Haasman

Good to know. Where exactly is the felt attached? On the plastic cover pieces I assume, but where on them? Haasman

I have squeaking from that area- Micheal at the 500E meet tried detaching the plastic seat belt cover thing. THe squeaking still exists though. I think it may be from the seat springs.
The car has 52K on it. I just was wondering if there was a general problem area to direct some lube towards- I would prefer no to spray a lot of lube and have the car smell of lubricant. If anyone has a shot of the construction of the seats- like an upholstery redo picture that would be ideal to see where the lube should be applied. |
