I'm puzzled......
My 190E died when driving and would not restart. Things checked so far: fuel pump relay, fuel pumps, overvoltage relay (fuse ok),
hose from the air cleaner housing to valve cover, (no vaccum leaks)

Got spark, fuel, and it will still not start.

Any guess on what it could be?

Other things to check - compression, actual fuel pressure, the rest of the intake hoses.

Compression should be good after all this car ran great until this happened. All hoses on including idle air hose in rear of manifold.

Fuel pumps have been replaced.


What next???????

Forgot to mention cap, rotor, and plugs were replaced 30K ago.
EHA, New timing chain and tensioner, new fan belt, and window relay also.

Crankshaft position sensor?

Odd request but, put your nose to the tailpipe and tell us if you smell fuel?

If it were my car I would also pull off the air cleaner and check the throttle plate and its position.

What is the outside temperature at this time of the year in your area? It could be cold start valve or maybe one of the wires of the coolant temperature sensor is unplugged.

check the voltage regulator on the alternator, you still will get a mild spark if the regulator is going south.

This started when the temp was in the 70's. I had to have it towed home and I have been trying two figure this out for the past two months.

What temp is needed for the cold start valve to affect starting?

When I looked every wire appeared to be hooked up last week.

Alternator was replaced less than 10K ago. Battery had good charge.

Hmmm, I thought this only affected engine timing and computer operations when running.

Shooting into the dark....short in the ignition switch or alarm system?

Are you sure yoiu're getting spark?

Cold start valve will not be activated unless the outside temp is below 60 F. So you should be OK there.

Since you have a manual transmission, were ever able to start it using the clutch and gear? (Ignition On, 1 or nd gear, downhill, let clutch go?)

Also, just in case, you might want to read out the output on pin 3 of the diagnostic port. Maybe for some reason you air/fuel ratio have changed.

Geoff,
The ignition switch and tumblers were replaced about 15K ago due to the fact that I did not want to happen to me what previous members have gone through with stuck tumblers. After I freed them up with tri-flow, I replaced all parts and had a new key made.

As for compression start, I have no way to get this to a hill to try this, let alone tow it back up the hill if it does not start.

Yes, we have spark.
