When lean starts easier, why?

I checked my plugs and they were a bit white in color. Then I checked my duty cycle and found it to be hovering around 80%. so I adjusted to about 50% and now the car doesnt start on the first few clicks anymore. It takes like 5 seconds of cranking, or sometimes crank and then turn off key and crank again.

I was wondering why this is the case? I thought it would have started quicker when it was richer, since there is a coldstart valve to provide a richer solution on startup.

Thanks,
Josh
