sorry, euro lights again

After fitting euro lights last week tonight was the first time I had tried to use them. Apart from needing to be aimed when I switched on the high beam the radio went off and the ABS light came on!!!! Switch Highs off, ABS goes off and radio comes on again. H E L P ~!
If only we had a half descent dealer up here.

Sounds like a low voltage issue. What wattage are your bulbs? Euros should be same wattage as US, but there are HiPo aftermarket bulbs.

bulbs sizes

H4 Blue 12v 60/55W
H3 12v 55w

Came with the lamps (HB Autolampen) make

could it be

I did the changeover myself and did not solder the wires. They seemed OK so I just dropped them in the new adapter???

Sounds like a miss wiring. What schematic did you use? Do the euros have the 5 pin connectors?

The wires appear to be in the right holes,

hummmmmmmmm

So no radio when on high beam, SRS light and ABS light. More lights in the car than outside.

My problem is more fun. I have a 1981 280SE Euro model that was brought into the US through Florida in 1986, so it was converted to US lights. The driver's side headlight plug is missing its holder, the individual wire sockets are just pushed onto the terminals on the headlight assembly.

The low beams are dim and yellow, and when I pull the switch for the fog lights, the fog lights don't come on but the headlights go to high beam.

In the short term, I want to make the lights I have work properly, and in the long term I want to switch the car back to Euro lights, and make the vacuum adjusters work again (I have the switch on the dash) and the headlight wipers and washers as well.

Tony, the socket and cover for the headlight plugs are a sub $10 part at dealerships. The lighting problem you describe is what happens when the plugs are not rearranged from North American to Euro, or vice versa. Easiest cure is to get a voltmeter and check the power output at the plug when chaning positions ot the switch.

This is my first Mercedes (after wanting one since high school, which was in the W116 era) I'm still getting used to the idea that dealerships will have parts for a car over five years old. :)

My MB dealer has little electric bits & connectors for my 24 year old VW (that VW does not have)!
