Does anyone know why there would be a MB badge (like the grill badge at the top of the grill) on the rear left fender of an '80 300D. It appears to be bolted on and there is not one on the right side. I think the car has been skilfully repainted since it looks great and is the original pale yellow color.
However, the underside of the trunk lid looks to be un painted. Coated dark grey steel. .that seems odd. The interior of the trunk is virtually perfect and the vinyl liners look new. .they may be. If there has been body work done it was masterful. Any tell tale signs to look for? The bumper guard has popped off or was never put on and resides in the trunk. More will no doubt be evident when the car is back on the road.

I don't know about other MBs, but my 87 300E came from the factory with a dark grey painted inner surface of the trunk - the car was owned by my father, and I know it has never been re-painted.

The badge bolted to the left rear fender? Don't know - maybe a cheap way to repair a drive by shooting without a re-paint :D ???
Where is it on the rear fender? Possibly the previous owner drilled a hole for a HAM, CB, or car phone antenna and covered it the cheap way when he sold it.

Trunks and inner panels are often flat colors, they are not unpainted black metal.
