I have always want a Porsche 993, and that will be likely my next purchase. It seems like quite a few people are taken by the new Saab. I work with a few guys who are die-hard Saab drivers, and I have the opportuinties to sit in their cars quite often. The impression I get from Saab is "GM" all the way. Things are always broken, and talk about plastic!! One guy has both of his passenger internal lights came out of the sockets, and the other has the face of the hidden storage compartment fell off (now its not that hidden). The ride, I must say, does feel solid. Even in the Cabrio. As far as MB quality, my ML holds up pretty well and I have no problem whatsoever. As for the plastic parts, I guess thats why MB can afford to lower their price to compete. Or else Bimmer and GM will eventually take over the market. Remeber not a too distance while back only super rich folks drive MB? Now its an affordable luxury car that ordinary people can afford. No matter what, I think MB still offers the most advance of technologies to modern day vehicles, and there is no other car company can match that. They can only imitate. It may by costly to fix all the electronic gadgets, but they save our lives, and I can hardly argue what price tag to put on the gadgets if it does what it means to do. And lastly, MB still retains a certain status symbol and I believe there are countless of people out there would love to drive the kind of cars we have, even the quality is a little subpar. Its my two cents.

If was to purchase any new, reasonably practical car, it would be the Jaguar XKR roadster. By most accounts (including the JD Power survey) Jaguar (Ford) has eliminated most of the quality control problems for which it is infamous, and the XKR even uses an M-B transmission. Aside from that, it has reliable Eaton-supercharged V-8 power, very high performance, and absolutely stunning, timeless, and utterly tasteful design. As far as appeartance, an M-B SL looks absolutely dull by comparison. Make mine silver with the burgundy Connolly leather interior. Unfortunately, living in the city makes any new, really desirable car an impractical theft target, so I'll just have to wait until I settle down and move to the 'burbs!

The dream stable:

Sports car: '00 Porsche 993
Big Coupe: '89 MBZ 560SEC
Mid sedan: '92-'94 MBZ E500/500E
Small car: '00 VW Golf GTI (1.8T)
SUV: '00 Toyota Landcruiser

What can I say - I really like the late 80's/early 90's MBZs best. Though a pagoda would be sweeeet...

For the next car, I will definitely stick with German Made. Audi will be on the top of the list, with either S4 or A6 2.7T on my list. However, I did come across a Passat Wagon with V6 and 4Motion(fully loaded, BTW). Pretty darn close to my expection for grocessary grabber.

Sport Compact: S4 6-Speed, 330Ci
Mid-Size: A6 2.7T, 540i
Full-Size: A8L, 750iL Sport, S500(if they address the cheesy interior parts)
Roadster: M-Roadster, SLK320(auto)
Large Coupe: CL500
Luxury Roadster: SL600 Sport, Z8

Just re-reading the post here and do I dare say it?!?!?! Are there veedub lovers here also?!?! YEAH!!!! I felt so alone here. The Passat 4 motion is a nice car a bit to big for me ( I like compacts) and the TDI is a wonderful engine with some mods you can really have a screamer on your hand, however they are no longer available for sale in California
Wow, I feel so happy that they're other dub heads here

Hey, Nokia! It's me, Jake. Using another name, anyhow.

Probably a Porsche Boxster S, in yellow.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06, talk about a meat grinder.
M-B SL600, black, with the Sport package and the AMG Aero II Monoblocks.
Audi A8 Quattro, in silver.
Jaguar XJR in a black pearl.
BMW 750iL finished off in a nice Cosmos Black.
M-B CLK430 Convertible in white pearl.
Volkswagen Passat GLX 4Motion Variant in Black Magic.
Volkswagen New Beetle 1.8T in Yellow.

So many choices.

Hmmm....E55 would be on top of my list, but the CL500 would be even better. But for now, I'm fine with my E320.
