I have noticed stutters at idle with my 89 190e 2.6. Is this likely caused from low octane fuel?

I am going to check my overvoltage relay fuse and put in higher octane fuel for a month and see if I get better idles and better cold starting. My wife recently had the car "jump" started.... so I am pretty sure from what I have read in the forum... that the fuse on the overvoltage is the reason for the hard "cold" starts.

Opinions??

I usually listen for ping before I decide to go to higher octane. That, is after I have switched gas stations and checked for accurate timing. As far asa problems...I heard that continuous pinging puts holes in your pistons. :eek: however this could just be an 'old mechanics tale' too.

THATS a rich old mechanics tale!! However us newer technicians do agree that if a car is designed to use a certain lubricant then we use it. And the octane rating for MB cars has been Preminum since 1987 on all cars. This is due to higher compression engines. On some cars 89-91 octane will do, but cars like E420/S420 with 10.5/1 compression will not perform w/low octane fuel. Remember that old FRAM saying PAY me now OR pay me Later. LATER usually costs a bunch more!!
& yes the engine in my race came from someones 1987 190E 2.3 & number 2 piston was missing. At shop we see the results from someone who doesn't follow MB suggested service.

Spose we better get back to using higher octane. This is an 89 and it request high octane.

it does on my car. and only chevron gas. i know, tonight 94 costs .89 per liter or US 2.37 per gallon.
