Manual Mirror Controller The "joystick" on my left-hand mirror (1992 300E) snapped apart (at the ball joint). It appears that the piece itself cannot be replaced because it is held in by a rivet-style washer inside the works of the mirror housing. Does anyone have experience with replacing just this part (can it be ordered separately)? Should I just forget about it and replace the entire mirror? Thanks for any help. |

Todd I now have this problem - what did you do? NormanB |

Mirror Replacement Norman: I ordered a new mirror. It cost $168.99 from: http://www.alloemautoparts.com Installation was easy. The mirror is black, which worked for me. Not sure if it comes in other colors. |

 Thanks Todd $169 - eek! I'm off to a scrapyard................. |

Mirror Wow! Wish I'd known about that site before. Next time... Thanks for the info! |
don't paint if you have the old mirror, the back comes off (just did this on my wife's 400) and you can swap the two covers. In fact the mirror I got from the factory didn't have a back, had to use the old one. Might be different for the 300. Check and see. |
Peter: Thanks for the info. How does the back come off... is it screws somewhere that have to be removed....? |
No screws Sorry for the delay, out of town. There is a thin plastic trim piece, U-shaped, which follows the line of the mirror edge (upper, outer, and lower edges). It is pried out with a plastic wedge or something which won't mar the finish. Once that is out, the back is clipped in, how so evident with a look-see. I know the 300's and the 400's are not identical. I thought all the 300's had black backs. Your mileage may vary.... |
Thanks, Peter. I discovered just what you said yesterday.... |
and also.... ...NOT the reverse of removal to re-install, put the trim piece on first, THEN snap the back on. |
no paint Thanks for the tip, I just swapped mirror backs and it is on the car. I believe it is worth noting the trim pc to be pryed out should be started on the forward edge, and best to be warm so it is not too brittle. |
