When my car is on it gets uncomfortably hot in the my car(1990 190e). I know then engine gets hot, but it shouldn't get that hot should it?

Mooch2 -
Can you give us a little more detail? Is it hot with the AC on? Is the operational temp of the engine higher than normal? There are lots of possibilities...and btw, is this the 2.3 or 2.6? ------------------ John J. Meadows '83 300D 260k mi. '85 190E 2.3L 99k mi. |

It is a 2.6. The AC is not on as a matter of fact I turn all of the buttons to the off position. The car still has a heat coming from the dashboard not the vents because I keep them closed.

If the heat is coming from the dashboard, I would have to suggest that the heater core is actuating, regardless of setting. I believe there is a monovalve involved in this process. How is engine temp? Having the heater malfunction actually is probably keeping the engine temp a little down by radiating some heat into the passenger compartment.
Does the AC function? I am curious to see what the techs post about this... ------------------ John J. Meadows '83 300D 3.0L 260k mi. '85 190E 2.3L 99k mi. |

The AC does not work. i would believe it just needs freon but who knows. I also don't have the underlying mat that goes under the hood of the engine to keep it quiet. The engine does get hot after driving it on a hot day. even on a regular nice day, the temp will go up to were the exhaust fans need to come on.
