The badges signify how many miles you have on your vehicle. You can get them from your local MB dealer. Do a search here in TECH FORUM under the word "badge" and you should see a previous post about it.

You may be seeing "radiator plaques" issued by MBZ to recognize faithful cars and owners. Awards are made for cars with 155,000 miles, 312,500 miles, or 625,000 miles. The awards are actually based upon km not miles, hence the odd levels in miles. You can pick-up a application form at your local dealer or by contacting Mercedes-Benz USA, One Mercedes Dr., Montvale, NJ 07645 or calling 800/FOR-MERC. Be prepared for a long wait. I sent my application in for the 155,000 award several weeks ago.

Yes they're free, The mileage points listed in the previous are correct. The badges themselves show 250,000, 500,000 and 1,000,000 kilometers respectively.

At my current rate, my 240D is about a year and a half away from the 1,000,000 kilometer badge. It already wears the 250,000 and 500,000 kilometer badges on the grill proudly.

If you have enough information on other MB's you've owned, you may also get a high mileage lapel pin.

Good luck,

The form does not have any place for the dealer to verify. My dealer gave me a copy of the form with no indication that it needed anything from them. I completed it and sent it into MBZ. In addition to the "awards" based upon mileage you may be eligible for a lapel pin and certificate based upon the total mileage you may have accumulated in any number of MB cars.

Basically there is really no way to confirm actual mileage on the car. They just ask for the VIN # and the engine # to make sure the original engine is still in the car. Take it from me, I've applied for alot of my cars! As of now, my 450SL and my 300SD have the 250,000Km badges and my 6.9 and 240D (which I have since sold) both had the 250Km badges on them. I acquired three lapel pins and a certificate for each car in addition to the badges. I am hoping to at least hang the 500,000Km badge on my 300SD before I retire it.

I've driven about 28,000km in my E420 since I bought it in '95...that means to get the 250,000km grille badge, I'll have to wait like another 40 years!!!
