How much did a 1975 Mercedes 450SL convertible cost new? Where can I find this info?
Hello. My uncle has a red, 1975 Mercedes 450SL convertible in MINT condition. He was wanting me to find out how much this car sold for new. Does anyone know approximately what this car sold for new in 1975, or a link to where I can find that info? Thanks for any help.

I worked at the MB dealer in 1975 (my last year). If I remember correctly they were about $20k.

Thanks a lot! I will post a photo of the car later.
Thanks again. |
MB-USA
If he writes to MB-USA (New Jersey address?) with his VIN and a copy of his registration, they will mail back a copy of the original window sticker for his specific car. Complimentary. takes about 2 weeks. Kind of a cool thing to have.

If an SL was $20,000 in 1975, that's just under $70,000 in 2002 dollars. What does an SL sticker for in the US today? I think it's more than $70K. The 450 was a better deal.

__________________________________________________ The new SL's are in the $90K to $100K range depending on options and where you buy the car. And the 450SL just might have been a better car too. Not as many toys and gadgets but certainly more dependable and much cheaper to maintain and repair. And they still retain their classic styling after all those years. Of course I am somewhat predjudiced.....I own a '73 SL with 85K miles. I constantly get questions asking what year the car is....and most are astonished when I tell them it is over 30 years old. |
isn't the new sticker price on the title form the original purchase?
|
Not on any title that I have ever seen. I think they only show the taxes paid. Thanks again folks.
