M103, KE linkage adjustment- help needed

Guys and Gals,

I took apart my linkage to lubricate everything.. guess they "missed" it during the 75,000 mile service.

Anyway, off the throttle airbox- throttle control there is a short arm. It is connected to a bell crank. The bell crank has another rod which goes between the intake runners-to something=0)

Can someone tell me how long that rod is suppose to be adjusted to? Can someone tell me it's name.. I cannot find it in the EPC.

Throttle valve or CC linkage. The throttle valve is buried pretty deep on the KE M103, under the flap for the fuel distributor. There has to be some room there between them, or the fuel flap will vibrate badly at some rpm ranges.

CC actuator is on the side of the engine, at the rear.

I've got it back together.. .not right, but driveable.

Is that the cruize control under the intake manifold? Anyway, the linkage piece I'm talking about is no the throttle valve. So, I guess it's the CC.

Without my trusty manual- I set it by the throttle linkage at it's stop and the cc actuator at it's stop. I'm close but... here's how it behaves.

The engine revs to 1000-1100 between shifting. Ie- Park to Neutral, neutral to drive. Etc.. Idles down afterward.

Michael,
Now you've gone and done it! Without the manual or the CD (pdf job 3022) you're shooting in the dark. One measurement isn't going to do you any good without knowing the relationship of the others. I assume you've got this problem because you took apart the link arms? If you didn't change any of the link lengths you should be able to just put it all back together without adjustment.
Without knowing exactly what you've undone, I'd have to suggest you start at the beginning with the manual. Will it idle properly in Park?

Hazen,

Nope, I didn't take the ball ends off the rods... One ball end just did not have the locknut tight. Futzing around, getting it to seat, it turned quite a bit. Started it up and 2000 RPM. I looked closely at the nut/ball relationship looking for witness marks. It really wasn't clear.

So, if this is like all my diesels, there is a measurement distance on this piece of linkage. And if I set it back ... everything should be fine.

Cruz is much better, but still it engages not perfectly smooth.

Hi samiam4,

My friend pesuezo is helping me tomorrow, bringing his digital camera, so we will take a few shots of my linkage and post them here. I'll be glad to make measurements and notes as well for you, to be sure.

Help is on the way, but if you have a service manual CD, that should show you the proper way the linkage fits and works. I took a look at my CD set today and it's on there.

Talk with you tomorrow. :)

PS>>Glad you like the worm in a hole Hazen....cool huh? :D

I would be very grateful for the pdf file.

I *promise* I'll find the box that's in the room of boxes and not ask again.

Busy day- did a filter tune-up on tdi, washing , brake work and hoses on a W123!
