creaking,crunching sound undercar

What could be causing the creaking, almost crunching sound under my 2000 ML55. Sounds like driving over gravel. this can best be heard at 15mph or under. appears to be on drivers side. more pronounced when turning steering wheel to right.

I assume it is only when you are rolling? Does the car drive all right otherwise? Is there resistance when driving? Is it coming from one of the wheels on the driver side or from under the car? If it's coming from one of the wheels it could be a caliper that is hung up on one of the rotors, or the parking brake. Otherwise, jack the car up and see if there is something hung up underneath it.

ON the ML's that noise might require re-tightening of the BODY to frame bolts. Also the rubber anti-sway bar bushings may require lubrication.
