Cracked Suppressor Cover- replace?
1 Attachment(s)
I noticed my suppressor cover has a 1" or so crack in the middle of it, should it be replaced and how hard is it to do so? I see there are 3 allen-wrench bolts around it, are they for the cover or the distributor? the bottom bolt seems hard to get to.
(i think i have the right name for it, large black plastic part covering the distributor in the photo) |
That is your suppressor housing. Yes, replace it. It's cheap. Do it at your next full tune, but monitor untill then. And probably your cap and rotor while you are in there. Looks like you are missing your distributor cover (I think it is called.) as well. This often happens when the two tabs on the SupCov fail.
You might as well have new ignotion wires, wire holder and plugs on hand as well. And the air filer too. |

I'm in the process of replacing the water pump on my 300SE. I too have a slight crack on my cover so I need to replace it. I also have white stuff on my wires and some burning on the coil wire insulation. It looks like you also have white residue on your wires. Is that the case? BTW, the pump has been a PITA so far. |
Hi Warren,
i'm not sure if i have white deposits or that's just dust. I'll have to check again, it is rather dusty under there. One of my wire dust boots has a split, hence the black electrical tape to keep out more dust! I do have the plastic distributor cover still, I just removed it to take the pic. I see the suppressor housing is pretty cheap to buy, do you know if it just pulls off? I think i read in another post that it will with a bit of effort. |
