cold weather starts

Im having some problems with the 88 300e 250k km starting now that the cold weather has really hit. the engine requires a fair bit of cranking to get it to start (whcihc is hard on the battery etc.)

tried to get a block heater installed but the mechanic reported the frost plug was tight and might strip if removed. the gas has antifreeze added, last tune up was about 35k Km ago.

any quick suggestions? a farmer told me he puts a lightbulb under the hood to keep things from deep freezing...

There are other engine heaters beside blockheaters, some splice into the radhose, others are a self-circulating, tank type.
Check at Canadian Tire or a good Auto Supply store.
All of them are quite easy to install.

Thumbs up Block Heater

I been going thru the "Cold Start" ""learning phase of a Diesel"" too!!....

My local mechanic just found a block warmer that splices into your heater hose ....$48.00 bucks not bad...I dont know much about these types, but I'm gonna try it...anyone have comments on this type add-on?

Just put in a 850 crank amp new battery, after tommorrow, I'll put in the block warmer and I'll post results..
