I did not know your car had a separate O2 light. Are you sure it is not the worn brake pad light that is coming on?

I have an 85 380sl with an O2 light. I read somewhere, maybe this site, that it comes on at the first 30,000 mile mark as a reminder to replace the sensor. I don't remember any mention of the light coming on at 60K, 90K, etc. I just went through 90K without a light.

The early O2 lights were just a maintenance light designed to allow MB to pass the requirements of the EPA for system durability. They were required to work for 50,000 miles with only so many failures. By requiring the sensors to be replaced at 30k whether they were bad or not they decreased the total failures per 50k miles.

The maintenance procedure for those models was to remove the light at the 30k interval and from there on there wasn't a interval.

Thanks for your reply. My 85 does have a separet O2 light but your response makes sense that someone has switched the bulbs around. I will be checking this out this week-end and will let you know the results.

Thank much,

Boatjockey
