My car has no dust filters, should it?

The other day I tried to replace the dust filters for the climate control system. I followed the method used in the "Mercedes E-class Owner's Bible" and when I finally got down the the filters there were none. It wasn't like they were missing there was not even a place to install them, no clips are anything.

I know that some of the 124 car have these, there are pictures in the Bible of it, why would my car not have it, it's of the the best 124's reguarding option since it's a V8 model.

Here's some pictures

The W124 chassis didn't have 'micro-dust" filters until 1994 model year, in the USA

Might as well lubricate your wiper mechanism while you got that open though:)

I have a 87 and a 95 station wagons. The 87 does not have and the 95 has the dust filter. The dust filter is accesible without removing all the cowlings and stuff. If it is there, you can not miss it. You can change it by removing the drivers side leaf screen and pulling it out. If someone had removed it before, it would be difficult to tell where it goes.

Take a look at the cowlings that fits directly below the leaf screen. THe drivers side would have a plastic clip that is on a plastic hinge. If it does not have the clip then you do not have the filter. Taking a look at the photo, it appears that you do not have the filter. It slides in between the air temp sense and the blower cowling.

Well, I wish that book would have said something about what years had the filters

Henry, I believe this is wrong. All 124's have those white plastic clips, and not just the drivers side, but both sides.
The easiest way I've found to identify "filtered" cars (besides looking in the intake screen and looking for the filters, or along the side of the intake screen) is by the "smile" shape under the wiper arm assembly. If it is hard plastic and held down with the 5 small screws, there is no filter. If it is a solid chunk of rubber which just lifts up out of the groove (no screws), it's got a filter.
