How can I easily test the alarm on my 90 420?

Roll down the window. Close the door and lock it to activate the alarm. Pull up on the lock inside the car by reaching through the window. When you open the door the alarm should go off. If it doesn't, the alarm may need a few seconds to activate.

1990 420SEL needs 3 to 4 seconds for the alarm to arm after the door are locked.
Newer cars with the door lock switch on the dash with the LED, need about 10 seconds to arm the alarm. ------------------ |
