1983 240D block heater
I can't for the life of me, find where the @#&? to plug in the block heater. I bought my car six months ago when it was warm so it didn't matter, but I guess I am a grasshopper about hooking this thing up.
I have had three different opinions as to where this little heater is. My local dealership doesn't service this model anymore (too old) who are they kidding. Please can anyone out there help me find this little bugger? Thanks Paul |

The block heater fits in a plug on the right hand side of the engine beneath the intake manifold towards the front. I have never looked at the location directly, apart from seeing pictures on the diesel forum. My own cord for the heater just comes out of that side of the engine. If you do a search on ebay for a mercedes block heater, you will see pictures of what the heater looks like and the kind of cord that gets attached to it.
You may have a block heater installed with no cord attached to it. (a number of people have mentioned that condition on the diesel forum) or there may not be one there at all.

Kerry is right. When these cars were new, they came without cords attached to the heater. The dealer would put on the cord before delivery if you asked them.
The cord is generic, not MB specific, but you probably can get one by clicking on PartsShop above. There are two screw terminals on the heater that is on the side of the block below the manifolds. Make sure you route the cable so that it does not get wrapped up in a V belt or something. The plug end should come out on the passenger side bottom of the radiator at the bottom of the grill opening. The way the dealer routed it on these cars was such that you could stuff it out of the way in the summer, then open the hood and pull it out for accessibility in the fall. Good luck, |
