Quit an engine

Gentlemen: Before I rebuld my 2.8L, I6 in my 97 C280 I wonder what damage would be caused if I where to merely cover the engine, the best I can, with some 1/8" aluminum backed insullation that builders sometimes use to insulate water pipes? This project looks easy enough because there are a lot of flat spaces on this engine. Also the intake runners could easily be wrapped with this the same material. I know this won't solve any potential mechanical problems but wonder if doing so would cause more, quicker? What say you? Oh, does anyone think by doing this it would even make the engine seem to run quieter?

Is this some thermodynamic free energy concept. What possible reason would you do this?

As with all hang-on gimmicks, my first response is; with MBs money you think you got a better idea? They ain't stupid. If insulation had a benefit they would have used it.

This is a "stop gap" idea I have regarding an engine that has 200,000 miles on it and probably some worn parts that contribute to a lowder engine.

Ohhh, Quiet an engine, now I get it. I thought it was: Quite an engine. And we were going to break some new thermodynamic efficiency barrior.

I don't think I see any benefit from doing this.

You could buy thirty cans of spray foam and fill the whole engine compartment , who wants to look at or hear those nasty old engines anyway..........
