Cruise control surge '88 300E

My '88 300E 2.6 surges violently when cruise control is activated.
Hold speed ok
VERY slight surge detected under 1/2 throttle acceleration. No surge under light or hard acceleration
Can anyone help?

Mine did the same thing. It was the computer. My actuator was fine. Bought one from a salvage yard and it's been fine since.

I also bought an amplifier from a salvage yard. Holds the speed fine, and works Ok, but I must set it 10 mph before the speed I want.
Example:
If I want to set it at 80 MPH, I must do 70 MPH and push the lever up (momentarily) and release it. It will continue to accelerate to 80 MPH and then hold that speed.
It does that for all the speeds above 45 MPH.
If I set it below 45 MPH, the increase is only 5 MPH.

I am soooo glad it works for my loooong trips
