'79 300D 137K miles. Well, oddly enough
the glow plug light on the dash went on for 3-5 seconds then off again shortly after starting up the car and driving off. It repeated this again about 4 minutes later while in motion. Anyway I pulled over and checked the glow plug fuse which was o.k., then checked the fuse box and only found (coincidentially?) one red 16 amp fuse to the auxilliary fan (aux.heating)blown. Otherwise the start up routine is normal with dash glow light going on then off before ignition. Is this 'wink' just that or do you think it is communicating some forthcoming need for mechanical attention? It has never happened before. Thanks for anybody's opinions. Archives suggest that a 'flickering' preglow indicator tells that a glow plug is about to go. Would the light 'flicker' if the 80 amp strip fuse were about to fail ? ------------------ 1979 300D 133K miles 1989 300SE 1995 C280 [This message has been edited by unkl300d (edited 07-12-2000).] [This message has been edited by unkl300d (edited 07-12-2000).] [This message has been edited by unkl300d (edited 07-12-2000).] [This message has been edited by unkl300d (edited 07-15-2000).] |
apparently, a loose connection or rust can cause this, not to
mention a failing plug. No further problem though. :) ------------------ 1979 300D 133K miles 1989 300SE 1995 C280 |
