At what angle or from which direction can I view the ignition timing marks and pointer on an 88 190E 2.3? I can't seem to find them from above. The engine pings on any fuel below 93 octane and I would like to check the advance.

I don't remember the cutoff, but I think that the 88 has non adjustable timing.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 1991 GMC Syclone ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
The balancer is graduated and has timing marks. I can see them if I get under the car. The distributor hold down is also slotted allowing for adjustment and rotating it definitely changes the timing. I just can't find a line of site through the peripherals to the balancer. I am new to Mercedes and you may be correct.

Benzmac is correct, timing can't be adjusted on this car. At dealer we hook car scope & view timing w/digital readout. Still not adjustable.
