What sealant would you recommended for the front timing chain cover (16V)? I was contemplating using Loctite 574 (Porsche case sealant) or Dirko which have worked well for me in the past. Also, does the oil pan (green style gasket) require sealant? When I have used those in the past I was told not to use sealant. Thanks for the input.

Use the MBZ OEM sealant. It's really not that expensive and it does a good job. Designed to maintain seal with aluminum parts that contract and expand.

Use loctite 5900 MB part # 002-989-73-20-10, SHOULD BE $15.

After talking with DOC, I found some of the OE sealant made by loctite. It is the best I have seen yet.

Try it and see.

In most cases when there is already a gasket sealer isn't needed, however on some cars a very light application is recommended by Benz. With silicon sealant you have a very short working time, less than 10 minutes is normal.
