Question new to CE land...some questions

Hello all, I'm not sure how you all prefer these posts to be posted as I am new to the forum. I am going to combine a few questions into one as to simplify. if this is not how it's usually done, or annoying...please let me know....

I just got a 92 300CE, with 49K. Love love love it! Premtivly, i will list all my benzs. 63 190Dc euro wagon, 68 250S, 77 300D, 81 300SD, 86 300SDL, 89 190e 2.6, 84 300D turbo euro stick, 91 300E 4-matic, 92 300CE. to continue...currently, i have the 63, 68, 84 and 92. Also, a 90 BMW 325IX, and 95 audi A6Q - dead at 80k

it has a few issues (listed in order of importance) and obviously, no warrenty.

1. off idle hesitation, sometimes very severe, sometimes almost non-existant...usually happens after freeway speeds and starting from a complete stop. Has new cap and rotor. When cold, doesn't do it at all. Used techron, no difference. I think this car has variable valve timing, and I hear some small sounds (no a tapping, more of a whine) in the head. Do these electromagnetic units ever go bad (like a VANOS in the I6 BMW)?? Can this be my issue with hesitation? I would assume it's more a spark or fuel related issue as the engine is a baby at now 51K. I was thinking of having the dealer address this, but the only dealer within 200 miles is absolutly horrible.

2 My window was frozen shut, and of course I had to push the window button 8 million times before it finally broke. I ordered a regulator and new slide jaw. How hard are these to install and adjust? If somebody can please tell me how to remove the door panel, I'd really appreciate it. I love how benz hides all the screws, but they're not the most fun thing to deal with when not just noticing how well these cars are put together, and having to work on them.

3 the ASR is absolutly no fun at all and also over-reactive in it's nature. How exactly is that snow chain button designed to enhance anything? It seems to give you a little wheel spin and higher RPMs, but i really don't get the point. Is there anyway to turn it off/reprogram it without messing with the ABS system?

4 The stereo; would you all suggest ripping it all out, replacing the head unit (not the speakers) or using the existing system with the addition of a CD changer. I'm not sure how the ohms are split up/rated at...but am just trying to figure out which option would be the best/most cost effective. For some reason, the left side doesn't function while using the radio, but does for the tape.....any idea on that one?

5 last one, which it isn't an issue. Does anybody know the offset of the 124 wheel? I have a beautiful set of knock-off 5 spoke AMGs that I had on my 123 for the summer, and want to mount them on the 124. The company I purchased them from stated that they'd fit fine, but who knows....they're either +25, or +35 offset 17" x 7.5.

Thank you all so much, and I hope to hear from you soon and also that you and your benz's are all extremely well. Be safe and safe driving all.....Karl Wezmar

The variable valve timing on the M104 engine is only on the intake cam and is a 2-position deal. I believe the 2 positions are no valve overlap, and 30 degrees of valve overlap. Which position it takes is dependant on engine rpm. It takes the overlap position in the mid rpm range around 2,000-4,700 rpm, but don't quote me on that. But it is not an infinitely variable system like the current BMW VANOS and only changes the intake cam in relation to the crank. I have not heard of problems with it before.

Welcome to the forum, hopefully someone else that knows more specifically about your model can elaborate more.

#1: Dunno, mine hesitates on start-up except the first time everyday, and thats it. It used to stutter at lights but stopped, cant help you there. Sorry. But someone can, that ? comes up a lot.
#2: Door panels easy, open it and you'll see what needs unscrewing, a little black thing by the lock with one screw and a chrome thing with 3. The place where the seat adjusters are, pop that out with a little screwdriver, and another bolt is in there. Remove the panel by the outside mirror, if its manual mirror, then the adjuster too. I think thats it. Then just pull up and out on the whole thing, in that order.
#3: Renntechmercedes.com probably has somethin, I think bergwerks.com has something too, I dunno, I dont have ASR.
#4: I got a new head unit, speakers and a 10-disc changer.works and sounds great, i thought the original was obnoxious. With the left side not working on radio, uhh... it seems like its probably in the wiring, I guess? Mine was out when I installed the CD changer but I fixed it something wasnt connected, why its only for the radio is weird.
#5: Wheels would be fine, I've seen some CE's lowered with 19, you can put what you want on there. Offset is supposed to be on the rim someplace, but I've never seen it.

Welcome to this forum.
That's a lot of questions you have there.
Whatever you do, please do not ask anybody on this board any questions in regards to engine oil .

Welcome to the forum

I'll address issues 4 and 5:

4. Unless you are going to show the car (only reason IMO to keep the factory setup), dump the factory Becker 1432 system. After the tape player started munching tapes on a regular basis and I had intermittent speaker performance, I bit the bullet and had a whole system (new MB Quart speakers and CD changer too).

5. The factory offset on the 15-hole (6.5 X 15) alloys is ET48. If you have 8-hole Sportline wheels (7 X 15), the offset is ET44.
