$19k 2000 S500 on eBay -- What do you think?

There's a 2000 S500 on eBay now that I am thinking about...based on price alone.

What are your thoughts on it being too good to be true?

2000 S500 Here

Thanks in advance.

Unless that is a typo on the price, I would be VERY skeptical. That is LESS THAN HALF the book value of the car. Private party book value on that car is int the $40s. I do not know why anyone would be sold for $19k if it is as represented.

Somethings not right.

Call the seller and ask about the discrepancy in nada vs. buy it now. Have an independent inspector look at the vehicle.

Maybe the guy just doesn't know what its worth? I would have an inspection done and not tell him till the title was signed. Why tell him he could get another 20+ for it? maybe this is just the deal of a life time?
Thanks
David

Why doesn't someone run a carfax on the thing?
David

definately have it inspected.

I am with Wan't 280 sel. Who knows what the deal is with the car!! If it isn't a typo. Take it to someone who knows these cars and have a detailed inpection. I don't know bout you, but I wouldn't mind paying some $$$ to have it checked. This could or could not be the deal of a lifetime.

Something stinks with that auction. "One owner lease," which indicates that it would be a dealer selling. BUT, the feedback is indicative of an art/antique dealer. Only a few pictures of the car indicates this was thrown together quick.

I would assume this is a stolen ebay identity looking to run with the down payment. If you buy it, don't wire any money and watch your back.

Theurig 01-29-2004 10:51 PM

that's probarbly it!!

I think gstigler hit the nail in the head. I heard about that. they'll ask for your down payment, and never be seen again or heard of again. Yup now that I think about it!! it is definately to good to be true!!

I think Geoff has one of the most likely conclusions. I think it is unlikely that someone would mistakenly sell a $40k+ car for less than half what it is worth. Whatever you do, be very careful.

For all the pilots out there, post number 777, ah a fine airplane.

Run a Carfax. If it checks out OK, I would say buy it. For peace of mind- I would ask if a local Mercedes mechanic can check it out for you. Good luck. It is a beautiful car to say the least.

Has anybody besides ME sent the seller any questions regarding this? I asked if I could come and inspect it and if payment and delivery could all be rendered in person. I figure if he tries to avoid contact, it MIGHT be a good way to see if he's for real.

You never know, it might be a divorce sale or something. I've seen stranger things.

I sent him a message last night asking where the car was located. That was like 10 or so last night so I of course have not received an answer yet.
Thanks
David

I immediately sent a message when I saw this auction. That was about 20 hrs ago and have yet to receive a response back yet.

Hmm....

It would seem to be gone.

Quacks like a duck...
